About Us
We are a society for people who appreciate or want to know more about minerals, gems, fossils, meteorites, fluorescent minerals, lapidary, jewelry making, field collecting, and even rocks. To that end, our type of organization is known as a "Gem and Mineral Club." Based in Meriden, Connecticut, we have been in continuous operation since the club’s inception in 1971. We are a 501c3 educational non-profit organization; all of our activities are possible because of the great group of volunteers that comprise our membership. There are hundreds of clubs like ours all around the United States; however, the hobby is truly international in scope. The world’s 2nd largest show is held in Munich, Germany, each October, surpassed only by the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, held each February in Arizona.
How We Rock
Education
Our club members include geologists, educators, and experts in the fields of minerals, fossils, lapidary, and meteorites - all ready to share their knowledge. Check out our Minerals section for an introduction to the kinds of things you'll learn as a member.
Monthly Meetings
Members are invited and encouraged to attend monthy meetings. Meetings are an amazing opportunity to interact with and learn from your fellow rockhounds.
Field Trips
Bulld your specimen collection with your own amazing finds. Every year we schedule a number of mineral collecting expeditions.
Lapidary
Lapidarists turn minerals into incredible polished, faceted, or carved works of art and beauty. We have a lapidary center for our members, and instructors who will teach you to make your own creations,
Annual Show
The Annual Mineral, Gem, and Jewelry Show and Sale is held each year in March. From the serious collector, to families looking for a fun and educational outing, the show has something for everyone.
